I am interested in epidemiology of tropical diseases, particularly those caused by parasites. Especially, I am interested in studying how the climate change affects the transmission of infectious diseases. That is why the aim of my master thesis project is to evaluate the effects of temperature on the transmission of Chagas disease. To achieve that, I conduct some experiments, which help me to understand how the temperature expected under climate change could affect the metacyclogenesis of Trypanosoma cruzi and the life cycle of Rhodnius prolixus, the main vector of Chagas disease in Colombia.
Our Center’s vision is to improve the quality of life and the health of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases, conducting research aimed to determine the risk factors involved in the diseases transmission to humans and animals, the parasite biology and pathogenesis.
