Mario Iván earned his B.Sc. degree from Universidad de la Habana, Cuba. He earned his master’s degree in biological sciences in the CIMPAT from Universidad de Los Andes. Mario obtained his Ph.D. in sciences, biology, in the sensorial ecology group led by Jorge Molina at the CIMPAT from Universidad de Los Andes, working especially in Rhodnius prolixus’ vision and chemoreception. Mario is currently linked to different research projects in the CIMPAT. Among these projects are: Behavioral and electrophysiological responses of Rhodnius prolixus to volatiles produced by human skin bacteria and Zika virus eco-epidemiology in Colombia. His research interests are related to: Medical entomology, hematophagous insects’ sensorial ecology, medical helminthology, arbovirus eco-epidemiology and medical protozoology.
Our Center’s vision is to improve the quality of life and the health of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases, conducting research aimed to determine the risk factors involved in the diseases transmission to humans and animals, the parasite biology and pathogenesis.
