My field of research is medical entomology. I studied biology at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia (2002), and then I worked as a young researcher at the Entomology Laboratory, Instituto Nacional de Salud, Colombia, on a project focused on evaluating impregnated bed nets as a control measure for leishmaniasis. I pursued master studies in biological sciences at Universidad de los Andes (2008), and I was involved in a project about ecology and control of biting midges. After finishing my master studies, I joined the National Vector-Borne Diseases Program at the Ministry of Health in Colombia. Then, I pursued doctoral studies in entomology, under the supervision of Professor Philip Lounibos at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, University of Florida (2017). In my PhD, I studied reproductive interference between invasive mosquito vectors. From Florida, I moved back to Colombia and joined the CIMPAT, as a postdoctoral researcher. I´m working on vector-borne diseases in the context of climate change, and on dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus ecology and disease risk management.
Our Center’s vision is to improve the quality of life and the health of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases, conducting research aimed to determine the risk factors involved in the diseases transmission to humans and animals, the parasite biology and pathogenesis.
