I am currently a student doing my Masters in Biological Science. I got my B.Sc. in Biology at the University of Kentucky. I am currently working in the area of Sensorial Ecology; specifically, I am working with a weak electric fish from a terra-firme stream in the Amazonas. These fishes have an electroreception system, which allows them to sense their environment. Under the direction of Jorge Molina, the focus of my thesis is to determine the discharge frequency variations of their electric organ discharges throughout the day. In this way, the organism of interest is Gymnorhamphichthys rondoni, a Gymnotiform fish found buried in the middle of the sand bank of this stream during the day when at rest making it an optimal organism for the purpose of my thesis.
Our Center’s vision is to improve the quality of life and the health of people suffering from neglected tropical diseases, conducting research aimed to determine the risk factors involved in the diseases transmission to humans and animals, the parasite biology and pathogenesis.
